Moggie Door Mystery?

Post by Boomlander »

Hi Folks,
Just been reading a few tips on the messageboard regarding getting doors to fit correctly.
My driver's door leans out at the top by about 1/4" and I being new to Moggies thought that as the lower half seemed to fit OK the door must have been damaged in some way.
From what I have read am I correct in assuming that the whole window section is an assembly in its own right and can be adjusted to fit as a separate unit?
Sorry to be so thick but it's so long since I have owned a "Real Car" that I have grown accustomed to everything modern and I need to relearn such things. You should have seen the performance when I was trying to lock the passenger door from the inside and hadn't noticed the little turn lever!
P.S. I have been busy on Ebay and am awaiting delivery of 1950s owners manual and full workshop manual for Jethro. In the meantime your help and advice is very much appreciated.

Yes the top is a separate assembly and you may get a wee bit of adjustment. There are 3 rubber bungs along the back edge of the door and behind these you will find 7/16 bolts, use a small socket to get at them. Wind the window down and unscrew them slightly and you should hopefully get a bit of in and out movement. Also dont forget to remove the philips headed screw thats at the bottom of the window before you start moving it!

I think for 1/4" most folks would just carefully 'lean' on it......

Many thanks folks,
I didn't want to do anything drastic before I knew what the hell I was playing around with so it's very reassuring to know that there are people out there with a wealth of knowledge who are happy to advise.
The car is probably the most expensive thing I have ever bought apart from the house and I would have been devastated if I caused it any damage (sad but true). Having said that I am sure most owners would feel the same.
Thanks once again and I will let you know how it turns out.

Absolutely! But the great thing about manmade objects is, they can often be repaired, with enough effort and resources, to a near-original state. Hence my learning to weld. 8)
The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!
