998 to 950

Post by daveyl »

A question for you, if you can help please. Is it possible to fit the Mini A+ 998 pistons/con-rods onto a 948 engine and crank?

the answer is yes. the 948 and 998 engines had the same 'stroke' crank, so fitting the 998 pistons will still put the crown of the piston right flush with the deck at TDC.

we've got a 948 with 998+010thou pistons in. with a 1098 head and 1098 cam, it runs very well :)

Many thanks. That is the way I'd like to go. Do you know if the A+ con-rods fit onto the 948 crank though?

Errrrr - small matter of having to bore the block out to +65 thou first....... Or - MUCH better to just use a 1098 block which has the correct bore size and comes with cam bearings fitted - with the 948 crank of course.

Thanks and yes, I am aware of that. There's a machine shop in my town. I need to know if the A+ conrods fit on the 948 crank.

If they are 998 rods - yes. Use the 998 cam and oil pump and timing gear set-up.
