have been back on the rollers this morning.

It seems we have 82bhp at the wheels at 6k. The power was rising nicely at this stage so its not unfair to presume 90 ish at 7k which it seems happy doing.

Drive train losses would be 25 to 30 bhp. So I have 110 to 120bhp.

Not what I had hoped for BUT:

I have been to a true reading rollers who only quotes wheel figures and with 99% accuracy. I suspect that the supercharged mini boys with 140 150bhp with similar set ups have much less than they are claiming. Maybe they are telling the truth but the rollers they use weren't. Or maybe they are talking out of their exhaust pipes.

On the same rollers a week or 2 ago a turbo mini with a known 135bhp (other rollers figure) made 75bhp at the wheels much to the discust of the owner. We all know rolling road figures vary hugely but I am a little dissapointed with my power of the moggy.

But it drives wonderfull, goes like stink and is happy.

So sensible head on I am happy with 110bhp plus and now need to look to weight saving for more performance gains.

It's the same with bikes - you can only compare with the same dyno. The one I use regularly disappoints folks who have had their bikes on other dynos. Years ago I was disappointed to get 80rwhp out of my fully tweaked MGB motor in my minor, until the guy said that it was producing the same as the rally escorts they tuned.
Once you are happy with your dyno operator, don't go elsewhere. I'd say your power is what you should expect.

Are the higher mini figures based on carb or injection set ups. full management might prove easier to set up, plus is the boost pressure the same.
I'd certainly fit an intercooler or charge cooler especially in the Minor engine bay where temps can drain power.
I agree re dyno/rolling road figures, we use Omex's own rollers, which are spot on as they have the likes of Westfield,Morgan,etc development work which needs to be consistant.

I have seen loads of carb'd and inj mini's with nothing more than a spacer plate and charger claiming anywhere from 120 to 145bhp with proof.

I think with blow through and intercooler I could poss manage another handful of bhp but it isn't worth it. It goes well anyway and I am just going to have to concentrate on weight loss now.

there is more potential performance through weight loss on most cars than tuning could ever realise.

Agreed but too much weight loss will give traction issues, and a std or mildly tweeked Minor suspension will not offer the flexibility of moving around corner weights and balance of the car.
We are running just over 700 kilo's and will now spend the next few months and maybe more trying to get the grip and balance perfect.

Oh what to do?

I am using and thinking about the moggy less and less each month. I still love it to bits and it makes me smile each time I drive it, but..... it just isn't as in my mind as some of my other toys.

If somebody fancies taking on this project/ buying a tidy 2 door with many mods besides the supercharger I am thinking of letting it go/ selling.

MOT is long but I have no problem putting a new one on as it would sail it.

Hello all that are interested, I bought the supercharged Morris!.

The car now lives with me in Eastbourne and I have set about adapting it to my personal taste.

The first addition is a carpet and a back seat for my dogs.
To follow a quieter exhaust. (The current one is LOUD)

Its strange I sort of miss it but sort of dont at the same time, I loved it but once I'd got the engine blower reliable I lost interest. I do miss the look on peoples faces as I steamed passed them at un-Morris Minor type speeds with the side exit exhaust screaming at them as I passed. AH many happy memories.

My next project is a e36 325 24v engine into a tr4 works rally lookalike, I hope I dont loose interest in that one after building it. Should upset the tradionalists as well, but thats just a bonus!

Now I've fitted the new exhaust, I'm not sure I like it, I may change it back soon, the car is just as n oisey at speed thanks to lack of sound insulation. I've got a big bit of thick celotex which I will put behind where the rear seat back should be.

best sit on that to keep your bum warm, it'll do very little to help with the noise.

try some rockwool batts of a similar thickness if you want to take that route for lessening the noise

The carpet is bespoke from 'Mike the carpet' a friend of mine. It tool a lot of persuading .
