Seat fixing bolt size required.

Post by Squeezebox »

Hopefully simple question.......what size/thread are the bolts that secure the front seats? The car in question is a '68 saloon if that has any bearing on it.

Not sure what the thread is but they are "standardised" BS fittings. The bolt head is 17mm

Strange - mine are a 5/16" BSF thread - and I use a 1/4" Whit spanner on them! 17mm sounds much too large ?? A 13mm spanner may be a loose fit on these bolt heads.....but it's NOT ideal. There are NO metric nuts/bolts/screws on a Morris Minor....... Using metric tools on non metric fixings is a sure way to get skinned knuckles......

YES there are, the Series MM engine has metric fine threads
Door hinge bolts fit well in the seat mountings, the pointed end pushes through the carpet and lines up the holes

For some strange reason I was reading it as seat belt mountings, so just carry on and ignore me

The MM engine may have metric threads - but I don't believe they have metric heads? In any case - few of us are saddled with the MM problems.......

True! Whitworth tools can be bough cheaply, so why round off your nuts and bolts?? The thread of the bolts that fix the seats is 5/16 BSF, with the 1/4 Whitworth head. The same size as wing bolts and door fixing bolts.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
