An 1951 MM LHD, stripped, with a minimum on rust

The biggest problem is not the rust, but the damage from the car.
Some repairs by people, who had only started with the first lesson in welding.
A lot of filler, sometimes 10 mm or more, and still some small holes behind it.
I started first with removing the filler, and some bad weldings.[frame][/frame].

What stays is an acceptable start.[frame][/frame][frame]And the car has a dry isolated room to stay.

Even the bolts and nuts in the doors were in a condition from a 5 year old Japanese car.

This one I have to remake, the only problem is that I have to make a hundred of them, and sell the other 99...[frame][/frame]

with a number of 100, the price will be around £25.
When I order 250, it will be around £22

I think to order it in September, but I need a picture from an undamaged knob, for the number 1.
I go with the old one, and the pictures, to my manufacturer, the are making a mold by measuring the old one, and then we can make the copies.
Before, I need to know how much I have to order.
In the register are about 1000 MM's, so this should be the maximum I think.

Sorry I didn't answer this a bit sooner but I have been anticipating eye surgery (It's done now for one eye) and not keeping up with my email.

I'm definitely interested in your project and would like very much to have the correct knob for my 1950 MM. As for your potential market, I would think you might sell about 100 at best. Have you any idea how much one would cost?

For me, there is now a high speed job, my wifes daily car is crashed.
I bought another one, but first I have to work on that one...[frame][/frame]
That one has a broken rear axle, but the part from the old car I can re-use for this one.
So the MM is moved back, and the suzuki got a place also in the garage.
And with the holiday to go, I think it will be September or October before I start.

One step more, the other car is back on the road again...

The blue paint on the door was to empty the nozzles after painting the suzuki...
now I have to take time to organize the next steps.

Some welded parts, are just hiding a lot of rust, so I removed it to repair it with original panels:[frame][/frame]
But the body of the car, I had to paint to avid surface rust.
My barn is dry, but never dry enough..
The next parts to paint are waiting for more time (and paint)

The other side . I think I remove the repaired part also, to look whats behind...[frame][/frame]

And I have to remove more, behind these weldings, it does not look nice...

I'm not aware that any of the MMs had windshield washers, only aftermarket kits. I know there is none on my 1950. If you intend to drive it much leave the one you have there, if you want it authentic you should probably remove it completely.

I know that some nowadays standards, on the 1951 cars were an option.
Even the outside mirror was never on my car, and I try to keep it so.
I say this, while i think, my next Toyota Prius will have a camera on the back side, and I like this option.
And, while my MM is my second car, there is not a bigger difference between these two cars, I still not have the Prius Tech edition, but a Hybrid car as daily transport, and a MM for the fun, yes

I bought one of these. The ESM one is made from rubber and is exactly like the one original one from my car. Is the MM one different from the series II?

Who knows how to take out the (left) door lock completely?
I took out the three screws, the chrome on the outside, but then....
One small part is going through the door panel, the part for locking the door.
Just pull him out with some force, or is there a screw inside?

welded some parts today, used a "donor" wing to make one good part.[frame][/frame]
Top and bottom are from 2 different parts.
This one is made ready for the next step:[frame][/frame]
Next week I have to pick up the doors from our industrial painter, they have cleaned them, and sprayed it in a base paint.
Because they are industrial painters, I have to do the finishing job by myself.
Maybe I bring the wings also to them to spray the basic color, but the rust is already removed.

The doors are back, a few weeks later, but they are ready.[frame][/frame]
Only 3 small holes in the bottom...
The Right A-post is renewed, the position was to bad to pull, and a new one to cheap.
So I renewed the whole part.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
Now the doors are back in the car, the new A-post was not as good as the original one, but, the doors are on the right position now.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
Next week I hope to move the Right door 2 mm backwards, I have to make a metal plate for it.
Then the front side, there is also something to weld on.

Did you ever re-make that shifter knob?

If not, have you considered 3d printing? ... they can make low-volume items MUCH more cheaply than the techniques needed for mass-production.

I have the address, the old knob in my daily car, and will deliver it to one of the people there with some personal information.
My biggest problem is the time, and the distance from this company my job.
When I am ready, this company is closed,
This company is making more products for our company, so I know what they can do.
