Should the suction pipe should have a one way valve on it somewhere. Either on the end inside the bottle or in the pump unit?

The pump may need primed, they can dry when left a long time. The way i do it is to firstly clean the end of the tube that sits in the bottle, get a glass of nice clean tap water and fill your mouth up with it! :o Blow the water into the tube and hopefully it should fill the tubes and pump and start to come out the jets. May takes a couple of mouthfulls depending on how big your gob is.............

Normally at this point I would fit a non return valve ( avaiable at any car shop) to stop the water running back into the bottle when you put it back together. Hopefully then the pump should work when your press it.

You can take the pump off and go and play with it in the bath! :lol:

Seriously though it's worth immersing it in water and confirming both that it operates and which are the inlet/outlet pipes. Use short lengths of pipe to help.

The washer jets do seem to be fitted 90 degrees out of position. Also if the the jet (the bit you turn with the screwdriver to aim at the screens screwed too far in it may prevent them from spraying.

That washer bottle is not a Tudor one so you can put the sticker wherever you think best, but the Tudor bottles had it at the top.

Bad luck on the horn push :( but they come up quite often on eBay.

There should be a non-return valve on the end of the pipe inside the washer bottle.

thanks for all the comments there, it could be the in and out pipes are on wrong I'll check that out in due course. the original came with these bits, that I have not fitted, the large black bowl has a screw thread cut into the neck of the narrow end, the white part on the right has been held against something hot, (or chewed by bunnies) and the small black junction is a mystery, I'm wondering if the pump failed and they purchased the wrong bits and never fitted them.[frame]Image[/frame]

The rear bleed nipples are a little on the blocked up side, so I got the pickup out and replaced those[frame]Image[/frame]

Well done on the horn push!

The left overs from the screen washer system are half an aftermarket manual pump (big black thing) a non return valve chewed white thing and half a "something" (valve, T-piece, filter?) Nothing useful except the white T-piece and the pipe! Remember to warm the pipe (hot water is perfect) before fitting the ends, makes it much easier! Another thing is that old pipe gets a bit brittle and you can get leaks and if it draws in air it might not pump properly. BTW If you have a compressed air line that's a great way to clear the pipe!

Almost there now! The more you can sort before it goes to the garage the less it will cost to recommission. In fact with the aid of this forum you can probably get everything sorted and just pay for an MOT!

quite right Neil, very good point, in fact you spurred me to go back and try David Mc's idea of priming it with one's gob from the bottle end, result, it all works perfectly.All it needed was that water pushed in from below. I replaced the one way valve and bingo.[frame]Image[/frame]

One thing I noticed might be good to have is the rear-view mirror...I think one of the images, shot through the windscreen, showed the ball didn't have a mirror attached. 8)
