coolant amount
The cooling system of the sidevalve mm i believe is 13 1/2 pints,what would be the safest amount of coolant antifreeze to add for maximum protection,some say 50/50, would too high a concentration promote leaks from head or water closet.i added frosts "cool it" recently and also k-seal as coolant starting to leak from water closet,the k-seal did not work ,possibly time to flush out system and add correct amount of coolant ??.

I recon 25% should do it for anti corrosion and whatever it recommends on the container for low temperatures

Thanks mike,that would be about 3 and 1/2 i would think,do you know where i can get a timing chain gasket,ian harris has none.

There are two gaskets, one between the timing chain cover and the packing plate and one between the packing plate and the block. I may have some spares

well i intend to have the timing chain cover removed in order to fit new chain an attempt to eliminate crankcase oil leak,.. sump gaskets and bottom rope seal did not work so i expect gasket to be the one,timing case to flat plate,would appreciate if you have one.

I can't see how replacing the timing chain is going to effect the sump oil leaks and being a duplex chain wear is not normally a problem. The usual problem is the rope oil seals around the crankshaft pulley, you should be able to see the oil running down the front of the sump. If it is only a small drip then I would leave it alone, it poes a good rust prevention job under the car.

oil is streaming down in three separate runs from the crankcase area,this run extends as far as gearbox plug and is messy and i lost a pint in a distance drive of 20 miles.to combat this i replaced all the sump gaskets and bottom rope crankcase seal,this made no differance so i was informed the timing case cover top seal was my next option, may as well fit new chain whilst at it,i have friends who have very dry sidevalve engines,why i have all the leaks just bad luck,is silicone gasket maker any good for timing chain cover.??.
