Chrome for Windscreen

Post by azcassie »

I have a 1960 Pickup and I am wondering if I use the chrome weatherstripping piece on the windscreen. Right now there is a black string of weatherstripping in the space where the chrome insert would go. Do I pull out the black strip and replace it with the chrome piece? Of course I know I'll need one of those handy tools to insert the chrome piece if I need it. Thanks for any help.

The "black string" was probably once a chrome insert. After years of sitting in weather the chroming on the plastic wears off leaving it a rather unsightly black/red colour.

LCV's didn't have a strip of any sort originally..... I don't think the original seals are available any more though so if you want to keep original appearance (from a distance at least) you should use a black strip.
