The Gear Have a Play of Morris minor 1000 -1957 year
The Gear Have a Play - is it Normal Situation ? Gear is work but have a Play - what is the problem ?

The gear lever is never exactly 'precise; in these cars - check if the lever is held down into the extension housing (bolts not come loose) - if you remove the lever there should be a plastic bush below - I suppose it could be missing. But honestly, if it's working, it's probably best left well alone...... Most importantly - make sure there is oil (engine oil) in the gearbox.

Check the parts here http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewP ... exID=17075
There is an 'anti-rattle' kit listed at # 131

How to remove the The gear lever to replace O - Ring and Bush[frame]

If your gearbox is the type with the extension housing, then using the above Moss link, the nylon bush (item 56) could have broken up. This happened on my box just recently, making the gearlever a bit vague! Worse was that one broken bit of the bush had slipped round, causing the box to over-shift into 1st(making it difficult to change out of 1st), and not shift fully into 2nd, which made 2nd gear keep jumping out.
With a new bush fitted, the gearlever is as positive as you could want! No flapping around at all!

Check that the rubber O ring (49) is still there as this stops the rattle

Re: The Gear Have a Play of Morris minor 1000 -1957 year
Just reminded me after seeing the parts diagram. I bought a new gear-lever rubber gator and I found when I fitted it on a Toyota box, it would make it 'jump' out of gear.
It's quite a rigid rubber, and as it's not of the full 'bellows' type of design, the gear lever seems to want to spring back to the neutral position.
Anyway, I went back to a bellows type and have not had any problem since.
Has anyone noticed this on Moggy boxes? Just a thought.

The get at the gearlever (if that was the 'question') - remove the rubber cover by taking out the screws, then remove the 3 screws holding the gearlever down - and pull the lever up catching any bits that fall away!
