I think I may have bent the pivot pin trying to bend that washer over, so Ive ordered a new pin, bolt and split pin from ESM, I'll strip it all off and put the new one on tommorow. Lesson learnt, don't buy important bits on ebay.[frame]Image[/frame]

Fulcrum pin.... that looks like the " proper job " to me.
The "last parts purchases" normally goes into double figures for a full on restoration.
You then start the "really last parts purchases " after the MOT failure ( like me for a missing split pin...how topical ? or should it my case be stupid !! ).
When that's all finished and you're on the road at last, you can start on the "replacement parts purchases".
Don't fight it, just think of it as evolution, adapt and survive !!
More new parts = more fun fitting=more experience= more knowledge.You're a much wiser man already.

Thanks Bob, I'm learning, at least, but this feels like front suspension groundhog day. I may have to take a disc to the rear nut of the old top pin, it isn't budging.[frame]Image[/frame]

in the meantime the balljoint to the steering arm needs to come off, I need to break the taper holding those two together, that will allow me enough movement to swing the king pin out and let in the new top pivot pin.[frame]Image[/frame]

The Pin is finally in, MATT I'm not sure if the balljoint should come in from above or underneath, maybe someone could tell me if it's important or not. Now to fit the lower bump stops..

Check out the "fit" on the lower bump stops before attempting to fit.A piece of cardboard behind the three holes and a pencil works a treat.
The one's my pal acquired needed a little "technical adjustment" with a 2lb ball pien hammer.Support the metal, so that it remains in the same plane, rather than bending it over, in the wrong place.Check with cardboard template until satisfied.

the flared ends of the wiper cable tube went into the new wheel box with a pair of satisfying "clicks", the sort of clicks we all long for, now I am just waiting for the correct rubbers that hold the wheel boxs at the correct angle to the top of the dash inside. Then I can fit the wipers and then...[frame]Image[/frame]

The bump stops arent sitting quite right. You fit them from inside the engine bay, so the bit with 2 bolt holes is on the inside and the single 1 on the outside. This way adds a bit more strength to the panel.

you're still missing a split pin on the drivers side :D

i can't make out why you struggled to get the nut off the trunnion side of the pin on the passengers side. surely it wasn't done up that long ago?

Thanks for that Dave, I can quite easily correct that and fit part of it inside the inner wing, Chris, here's a shot of the drivers side split pin, you can't make it out in the last shot, it's clearer in the 2nd picture on the previous page.[frame]Image[/frame]

this is a deceptively complex job, the bump stops where on wrong as spotted by David earlier, the car jack stands in place, the front wheels off, the brackets unbolted and replaced from inside the engine bay side wall...[frame]Image[/frame]
