Hi from a new member

Hi Everyone,
Been viewing the MMOC site for quite a while now and finally have the opportunity to become a full member.
I owned a Series 3 Minor way back in 1983 which I bought from a friend for £40 and then sold it a few months later.
It was called Wiggy and had the Reg. No. 212 XTW which I found to my horror now adorns a Kia Sedona whatever the hell that is! I can only assume that Wiggy bit the dust or his owner sold the plate for profit, anyhow after digging out a couple of old slides of the car and having an old endowment policy paying out I decided to buy a Wiggy lookalike nearly thirty years later.
I have just placed a deposit on a 1953 fully restored Series 2 split screen minor in Black and Red like my old car and am expecting delivery from Yorkshire within the next two weeks.
My wife and I are really looking forward to the car's arrival and can't wait to get Jethro as we have named him out on the road to meetings and shows in the area.
Also looking forward to chatting with the club members and hopefully meeting as many as possible.

i have just purchased a morris minor after selling mine back in 1990 it was my first car although my new one is far from restored. unfortunately my wife is not as enthusiastic as yours.

Hi and welcome ,i am new here myself and dont yet have a mm but am very much hoping to get a traveller soon ,wish my other half was as keen as yours too ! its always nice to have a shared interest and would imagine you get to spend more on your car !

In my experience you can never quite account for your other half's interest. My first wife hated my old cars with a passion, couldn't understand why anyone would want to "waste time and money" - so long as car was reliable and went "from a to b" then she was happy. My second wife genuinely can't wait to drive my Mog once it is back on the road after a full restoration! Note to all restorers - be sensitive to your spouse's starting point and remember that not all will want to spend long cold winter nights in the garage with you

"Jethro" will be arriving from Yorkshire on Thursday 6th October, can't wait to see the car.
According to a friend of mine who also owns a split screen Moggy the car was registered in Ayrshire, Scotland so may have to rename him Jock or Rab C.
One thing that does puzzle me is that while the car is Black with a Red interior the dashboard, steering column and handbrake lever are finished in a sort of Art Deco golden brown.
Would this have been the original colour scheme or would the parts have all been gloss Black? Also my old Moggy had a Red pinstripe on each side of the body but this one doesn't, did some cars have no stripe?

The colour of the dash would be correct for that year. The plainer dash with single central dial came in later on, for the 1955 model.

I learned to drive in my father's new, black 1955 moggy, and yes they all had a red pin stripe as far as I know. But many cars (including my own), once they are re sprayed, leave off the pin stripe! Good luck with 'Jethro.'
