2011 Insurance Premiums

Post by Tapitha »

How much are you being charged this year for insuring your Moggie? When I bought mine 7 weeks ago I insured with Footman James and paid £107 for an agreed value of £2500. I also insure an MG BGT (agreed value £3500) with them which cost £144 (about £30 more than last year). I requested a discount as I insure 2 cars with them but the answer was no because they are different makes! The MG has unlimited mileage but the Minor is 1500 miles (why?) A friend of mine with a highly modified Minor only paid £65 with another company. What are your experiences with insurance for 2011-2012?

I don't use FJ. Despite them being the "Official" club insurer they have never been competitive for me against RH. I pay £95 a year for 2 Travellers, unlimited mileage, breakdown recovery and agreed value on both. One at £2k and the other at £4k....

RH has been proven over and over again to have very helpful phone operators, and to be very competitive....... They happily add my TR7 to my Minor policy for 3 months each summer - without making any charges - just the extra monthly premium of course. cf my everyday car Insurers who charge me £35 admin just for telling them I have changed the car............. Actually - this reminds me to ask RH if they will insure my everyday car. :)

Thank you for the information but who are RH? It seems I will have to change my insurer next year.

Agreed! RH have been impossible to beat for me in both premiums and service!

Thanks for the summer insurance tip, BMC, I may try that with my 944 next summer.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

A big thank you to those members who recommended RH for classic car insurance. I have just switched the insurance of my MGB GT to them from Footman James and I have saved a staggering £113.50, unbelievable! The cover may not be as good and there is no agreed value but with a saving like that I am quite happy. The Morris Minor insurance will also be switched when it comes due in August.

MY cover with FJ went up nearly £200 this year (multi vehicle policy with 8 cars) from just over £300 to just over £500. I'd never received the advance reminder letter so only thought about it on the day the policy lapsed. So with no time to shop about I had to agree to it, but will be looking around for next year.

Having said that I've had very good service from FJ when I have had to claim.
cheers
Iain

Footman James in my opinion is no good even with the club discount. They're centraintly no competitive. I'm with LANCASTER INSURANCE, set up by the MG owners club. Im 22, passed when I was 17, and my insurance for my 1955 Minor was just £190. Footman James wanted about £350 I believe.

Be aware though that it is not unlimited milage, and I can only cover a certaint amount in a year. Its no problem for me though, as my Audrey only comes out on nice days, and doesnt travel that far.
