Clutch linkage snap

Hi all
I was leaving my house the other day when there was a loud CLUNK and a loss of drive the engine had stalled but started again when I turned it over. All the gears selected so I assumed it was a clutch problem when I had pushed her back home and had a look underneath the clutch linkage had snapped clean off so I replaced that with a little bodge job until I could find another one once I'd done that I tried it out and the clutch would not engage I can't see anything wrong with the clutch or the selecter disc I'm a bit lost as to the problem

A picture of the breakage or the bodge may help.
When you say the clutch won't engage do you mean you can't get the car to move, the clutch is slipping?
If so it sounds like your bodge has adjusted up the clutch too much.

A couple of fairly thick plastic cable ties work very well.
I used them for several months as they made the clutch action lighter.
You still need to leave a little slack in them but there are easily strong enough.

When I said the clutch won't engage I meant that there's no bite point like there was before. ( the bodge was a bit of threaded bar that I heated up and bent so I don't think it's an adjustability issue as it can be adjusted further in both directions than before) do you have any idea why it would of snapped in the first place

It's a well known wear point - your threaded bar should be ok if it's set correctly. Do you have the return spring in place - and ~ 1" free play at the pedal?
