Oil Feed Pipe

Hi everyone

I have recently bought a 1953 Series II Morris Minor and I am having a problem with the oil feed pipe from the engine to the oil gauge on the dash board. When I bought the car it had a neoprene pipe fitted and I was told to replace this with a metal pipe asap. I am not mechanically minded so took it to the garage who advised me the neoprene pipe was about to split and the replacement metal pipe I had did not fit - they decided to remove the pipe completely so I could continue to drive her until we could source a replacement oil feed pipe. This is proving tricky!

The Morris Minor centre in Bristol have said the series II never had an oil pressure gauge and this was an optional extra fitted after it left the factory - the standard cars only had a green warning light on the dash? They don't stock the correct pipe to fit the engine - please could anyone give me some advise about where I could go to obtain a new metal pipe that fits this engine?

She is a 1953 Series II but has had a replacement engine from a 1000 traveller. I was told the engine was 1098cc but some people at a show have said it is in fact a 950cc and then others have said it is a 1098cc! It does say 950 on the side so I think that is right! As I said not mechanically minded...! I have taken some photos of her engine including where the broken pipe was cut out.

Sprites and Midgets had Oil pressure gauges as standard with a 948 engine (like my 59 Frogeye).
It has two metal bits for gauge and engine and a rubber piece in between to stop vibration braking the pipe as copper can become fragile

The Morris Minor Centre do not know what they are talking about. The early Series 2 had the same instrument panel as the Series MM which included an oil pressure gauge. The original pipes were metal and could fracture, delivering engine oil at 60psi all over the engine bay.
The standard Smiths oil pressure gauge plastic pipe will work perfectly well as long as it is kept away from the exhaust pipe which on the A series is on the other side of the engine anyway.
If the engine has 950 on it then it is a 948.

I wish that pipe would deliver oil only to the engine bay. I had one split just behind the instrument panel where it filled up various bits before dumping the overflow on the new carpet. What a mess! In making the repair I bought a union fitting which I mounted through the hole in the bulkhead so it can be disconnected from either side. Now the inboard portion is quite immobile and is not likely to fracture while the engine side is easy to take off while service or repairs are being done.

The early Series 2, like the Series MM has no oil pressure warning light, just the gauge. Therefore it will not need the sensor or T piece, the pipe will screw straight into the hole in the block, probably with an adaptor

Nothing wrong with neoprene pipe - could it not have been shortened if one end was a bit frayed? Any Mini place and just about any decent auto shop (ie not Hellfrauds) will have the pipe. But as above - the two bits of copper and the rubber joining pipe is the proper job and was used on Minis for many many years.
