cleaning the water jacket

Post by cadetchris »

what is the best way to clean the water jacket?

my new engine is furred up with crude and i want to clean it all out.

my idea was to remove the tap and and blast the entire contents out the water pump hole with the aid of the jet wash, and them back wash it a few times to really loosen all the crud out.

any one got any other methods or suggestions???

Any chemical treatment would depend on the nature of the gunk you want to shift. Limescale, rust, sludge etc. Bear in mind that some products suitable for iron will not be tollerated by auxilliary parts such as thermostat cover, heater valve and rubber tubing if still fitted.
I used household descaler on the block, head, heater and radiator with good results. They were left overnight and flushed and reverse flushed several times.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Pressure washer is fine IF you dry it all off right away in an oven/hot sun etc etc
