Hi,
Has anyone got any suggestions for making the heater in my 61 4 door a bit more effective? It seems to work but all that it produces is a noise that drowns out the engine! I'm not expecting miracles but with it being winter soon I'm starting to think a working heater might be a good idea to stop me freezing solid while I'm driving!!

Re: Heater
First step - fit an 88 degree thermostat for the winter. Then - determine if there is any hot water getting round the heater - do the two pipes get hot? If not - is the valve open? If yes - take the pipes off the engine and flush them through backwards and forwards with a garden hose - re-assemble - do the pipes get hot now ?? For even better heater action - I advise blanking off the bypass hose - but this does involve at least removing the water pump -so best tackled when doing something in that region.

Re: Heater
As BMC says to get the heat. The noise is another matter - it sounds as though the bearing in the fan has failed, or that the fan blades are catching on something. It means taking the whole thing apart, and if you're lucky, a drop of oil on the bearing might help. Failing that, try a new motor.
There is an upgrade kit for later cars, which you could fit, but you would need to alter the parcel shelf at the same time.
