Split screen front window rubber replacement

The rubber seal on the front window of my '56 split screen no longer seals at the two bottom corners, leading to wet knees, shoes, and carpet when it rains. I am going to replace it but is there anything specific I need to know about replacing the split screen rubber or will it be an easier than single screen job..?

The replacement windscreen rubbers will probably be worse than the old ones unless they have produced a new batch. Read back through the old postings then get depressed

Hmmnn...may see if I can seal it first, otherwise if I attempt a refit I will enlist my care restorer neighbour (he's a v-dub specialist but I'm sure he can manage a Minor too).

you have been warned again,look back at the old postings,even pro screen fitters have the shakes when they think about it worst job I every did,unless they have improved the rubbers,you will still need to stick the corners in to prevent leaks.

Okay, thanks chaps - think I'll go with the try and seal it bodge. This job now goes to the bottom of the list along with 'replace headlining' Another of my 'I think I'll leave that for now' judgments. Apart from the effort involved I'd be really grumpy if it still leaked after forking out for it.

I used 3m windscreen mastic when I refiited my screen between the glass rubber and between the body and rubber. If your windscreen rubber is still soft/flexible enough to lift it at the edges should be fine re-sealing it.

where did you get the mastic from could be a good cure for mine cheers

I can get it through my local motor factors, but any car paint type shop should be able to supply it, think it is about £20 a tube

We've had great success using the black roof & gutter mastik from B&Q. It's sealed my leaking back window on the 2dr. It stays slightly "wet" unlike a lot of sealants, and does the job!
