Hi, I have just purchased an old sad 71 2 door, was on the road till 2007, dry stored since then - I'm going to restore it!!!! Anyway, with it came some boxes of bits including a gear box that the man SAYS is good.
So, two questions:
1. Any way of checking if it is good or not without fitting it!!
2. Are gearboxes in saloons and travellers the same?
Cheers!!!
Good gearbox?

Re: Good gearbox?
Give the shaft at the front of the gearbox a wiggle, if there is significant movement then there is wear in the gearbox. Try selecting all the gears whilst turning the propshaft flange. Take the side cover off and look for any obvious damage.
The type of gearbox is dependent on the engine size not on the bodywork

Re: Good gearbox?
Pictures of the workings through the side opening will give a good indication.......
