flooded

Post by dalebrignall »

hi we went to a car show today and other half needed fuel ,so we filled up as i was navigating in my mog i was in front .the other half could not start the car when i went to investigate the choke was fully out so the poor car would not start .pushed the car into a parking bay .tryed starting with throttle pressed down hard ,no go took plugs out span engine over ,cleaned plugs no go ,old set of plugs that work no go .flattened battery ,swappwd battery from my mog to hers ,i have altinator ,my car started on the key ,left it running :D .i then took the top of the float chamber off her carb wiggled the float and hay presto the car started. :D :D .bu the time we got to our show her battery was charged according to my ammeter in the car,i swapped batteries over.all this took a hour of messing about i think she had learnt a lesson, chock only to start a cold engine ,i was so frustrated, this is the problem when you are not used to old cars .

I expect Hazel just needed somewhere to hang her handbag Dale, that's why the choke was fully out  Try not to get too frustrated as I'm sure she'll soon get the hang of driving it. And look on the bright side, as least it broke down in a petrol station :D

Since it only started when you 'wiggled the float' -I'm guessing it was lack of fuel rather than flooding that caused the problem. But good idea to take a complete spare car along  I get pelters for carrying just a few spares........... :o

  Remember they don't have an automatic choke like the moderns Hazel's used to. It does take a bit of time getting to know just how much choke your car needs. They're all different.
