Cloth Badges

I notice the accessories available for purchase in the club shop does not include a cloth type "Morris Minor Owners Club" badge, suitable for stitching on blazors, anoraks etc. Yet I have seen these badges worn by members; are they available via another source? I can't believe the club doesn't stock them!! ??

The club used to sell these but I haven't seen any advertised for quite a while. Not all of the stock is shown on the website though so it might be worth contacting the regalia manager to see if they have any left: merchandise@mmoc.org.uk

When I was Regalia Manager (resigned Oct 2010) these badges proved too expensive to manufacture and sell at any profit, hence they were dropped from the stock in 2007.

Surely a club of this size can find a supplier who can produce a club badge, we must be the only car club without one! I'm also a member of a small archery club which has had badges produced at a reasonable price. Looking through the club regalia list everything seems to be availabe from tea towels to clocks, except of course the most important item a club badge! Which not only gives pleasure to the proud wearer but also advertises the "Morris Minor Owners Club."

I see what you mean about the e-mail address - I just tried sending a message and got the same response as you did. It's the correct address, as listed on here and in the magazine, so I'll make some enquiries to see what the problem is.

With regards to the badges, I suspect that there isn't a problem with finding someone to make them - more a case of not many people want to buy them. You'd have to buy them in bulk from the manufacturer in order to keep costs low but no point in doing so if nobody (or very small numbers) actually want to buy them any more. I think the sew on badges used to be popular years ago but since then a lot more clothing with the club logo on - polo shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps, jackets etc - have been introduced. These items seem popular as you tend to see quite a few wearing them at rallies and club meetings so perhaps members now prefer buying 'ready branded' clothing rather than sewing a patch on?

Thank you Louise for your interest in my posting. I'm saddened to read your comments regarding the perceived lack of interest in an independent club logo badge. At a recent rally I spoke to a few members who were seen wearing the 'independent badge' on independent clothing! all of whom when I spoke to them seemed to prefer this method of displaying the badge.

Regarding the numbers ordered ..... well yes, it's wise to order in bulk ..... they will all sell eventually, as is shown by the present lack of stock. All clubs should have their badge available to members! Badges are exchanged with members abroad; collected by enthusiasts; even stuck on boxes. And to cap it all the Australian Morris minor Club produces one!

I feel a club badge should be available to any member who would like one, as per any other Classic Car Club.

There is an enamelled pin on badge available. This is much more versatile than a sew on badge as you could wear it every day, no matter what item of clothing you are wearing, and no need to sew. And much more economical than having to buy several cloth badges for different items of clothing, or waiting for one item of clothing to wear out then stitching it onto another. Perhaps this would be a suitable option?

LOL, yes I have seen these Louise; quite nice, but rather small. No, quite a few people, usually men, have a favourite or preferred garment they can slip on, an old trusted anorak or short sleeved, many pockets type coat on which they can sport club badges. I don't think it necessary to have a cloth badge on 'many' items of clothing, maybe just your favourite.

I don't think there is an alternative to the cloth type badge that has been sported for many decades by Morris Minor owners and indeed other classic car owners, on all types of garments, and I for one am extremely sorry that the club feels they are now out of fashion. We have available clocks, ear rings and goodness knows what nowadays, but sadly no cloth badge.

Well I don't think it's a case of the club feeling that they have gone out of fashion, more the members not wanting to buy them any more. I understand that prior to stopping selling them only 3 had been sold in 4 years. As you say, people might sew a badge onto just one favourite garment so probably wouldn't have a need to purchase more than one badge at a time, especially if the garment lasted for years. So I'm sure that you're right, and some members may have sported a cloth badge for decades, but it's probably the same badge! Having the badges specially made would be quite expensive so in order to be able to sell them at a price that people would be prepared to pay a 'job lot' would have to be ordered. And if they sell at a rate of less than 2 a year purchasing a 'job lot' would not really be a sensible option.

A cloth Club badge came up on ebay a month or so ago and sold for 99p so you never know, there may still be some around that haven't been sewn onto a trusted anorak yet

I'm heading for 60 all to fast and wouldn't be seen dead in either, maybe that's why they don't sell well?

As the badges were too expensive to manufacture that's why I chose to sell the fleeces and other items of club clothing in the various colours to suit the car or it's interior. Loads of choice for all tastes.
