windscreen woes ?

Post by mattyb »

I have a 1955 series II split screen with a excellent shell but not much else !

Im obtaining bits for it and wanted to check that only the "butterfly" type wiper mechanism/gearing will fit a splittie rather than the later tandem type of gear ?
Also the earlier cars (including mine ?) had a "dr2" wiper motor -but can I fit a later type motor to the butterfly type mechanism/gear box?

any thoughts ?

cheers

A 1955 would originally have the wiper mechanism in the dashboard on the drivers side and only this type will fit again, the later tandem type would not wipe the screen due to the centre pillar! The wiper motors appear occasionally on ebay, I picked up a spare one for about a tenner.

many thanks for that - im trying to make sure I pick up the specific parts for my car - managed to find all the glass so far and I'm know someone locally that has a splittie I can at least look at to see how the wiper mechanism and motor fits

Cheers

I take it its not much fun Mike ?!!

Any advice greatfully recieved - the chap i'm buying the glass from is very much into minors so i can speak to him face to face when I collect the glass - i've used a piece of cord in the rubbers before - though on two pieces of glass plus all the weather strips I can imagine its going to tricky ![frame]Image[/frame]
