Been offered a Morris Traveller

Hey Guys, been a longtime watcher of the forum but today I thought I better sign up and get some advice

I've been to look at a Traveller yesterday, the wood is good, apart from the very small beginnings of rot underneath the bottom side bits past the door (are they called Bottom foot rail) the underneath looks good, floors/spring hangers, but there are flat plates along both sills underneath, looks different to on our saloon underneath, is this a traveller thing? and also the front at the bottom of the grille panel, and front of the engine tie plates have corroded

How does all this sound to you guys, the car is generally a bit rough and has been undersealed alot, but we had a good poke around at it and this is what we found

So what do you guys think its worth as it is, factoring in how much it would cost to weld in new tie plate sections

any advice would be most helpful Cheers

The flat plates on the edge of the rear sills are the plates that the wood bottom step is screwed to and as you said are different to the saloon in this area.

Could you post some pictures of the car on top and underneath. To me it does sound a bit like a "project with an MOT".

You have to ask "what is hiding under the underneal?"

I would expect to get only as much motoring as is left till the next MOT and anticipate a re-build and price accordingly.

Traveller sills should look exactly the same as the 2 door saloon (and very similar to a 4 door) all the way back to the B post where as chickenjohn says they have a flat plate screwed on to protect the underside of the timber.

If you have flat plates forward of the B post then suspect this has been plated for an mot. You should really insist on looking inside the sill sections before buying and remember that the traveller has additional reinforcing within the sill which is usually completely rotted out at the bottom!

It was last Mot'd and used two years ago, so has been sitting in a garage since, so whats it worth roughly without an Mot?

hi i bought a saloon which looked like it only needed a bit off welding to the springhangers & inner rear wheel arches, so far it has cost about £300 in panels, not including the welders labour, its on restoration part off this forum if you care to look, the new wood for a traveller is about £1000, and according to a fellow club member a challenge to get right, but if you buy it good luck with it

Hey Michael, I had a look at your saloon, shows you can never tell whats hidden under a nice paint job! the back wings have gone along there on our saloon, i'd hate to see what its like underneath the wings
