Thanks for all you replies. Hope this isn't becoming tiresome. I found the camera in question by typing into Google 'bbc cumbria travel - mobile speed cameras' and it was one of those in the 'fixed camera sites' section. It seemed to be directed down in my direction and flashed when I was almost level with it.

That is a "speedcurb" camera and takes pictures of the rear of a car, not the front....

Speedcurb is a digital camera, similar in concept to a Truvelo, which takes a picture of the rear of your vehicle as you drive past. It is easily identified by the small box on top of the very long pole.

Watch your doorstep for the next 14 days (from the day you got flashed)

If it was issued over 14 day after the lash then its void and you just need to write a letter to tell them so!

Paragraph 1 B

Quote it and thank them for the NIP! Never admit to it though.

I just got my first speed ticket, apparently I was doing 35 in a 30 area - you're driving downhill into a small town and they've stuck the speed camera just behind the 30mph sign...Got the pics and everything, no sympathy shown, just following the rules

I've now got the choice of a £60 fine and 3 points or a speed awareness course which will cost £85, but incl travel (petrol) it'll cost me about £100.

If I had been really speeding ok but this??? And I was in the process of slowing down. I know this won't help, but my speedo needle doesn't always stay level, moves up and down all the time....

Now I'm crawling past the camera at 20mph....

So I'm anticipating a fine and points on my licence (first time ever). Has anyone here successfully contested such a fine?
Stick to the speed limits is the easiest way to avoid a fine! (not to mention the points on the license).
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Most Morris speedos are a bit "out". Check it using a satnav. Then you know whether it runs over or under the correct speed.

The average speed cameras are the ones to watch out for, popular in Northampton. Anyone been caught by them?

I'm surprised to see this one resurrected; it's almost two years since I posted it. Predictably I got a £60 fine and three points.

I have no sympathy for speeders. That is until I got caught. It really, really, really hurt having to write a cheque for £60 and giving it away!!!
Cumbria, M6, down a steep hill, caught 81mph by a mobile camera on a bridge.
