Front damper removal

I've removed the bolts which hold the damper to the chassis, as well as the nut on the end of the pivot bolt, but I can't see how to get the damper arm off the pivot bolt. According to the manual it should tap off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The nut that you need to undo is the rear one on the end of the arm. This will allow removal of of a large metal washer and then you can prise the rear rubber bush off, after which it is easy to remove the damper. If you removed the front nut, then you will have problems getting the tapered pin out! NB you should release the tension on the torsion bar before doing this, otherwise there can be a serious "ouch" moment.

Jack up the suspension slightly under the lower arm - so the top arm is clear of the rebound stop - then release the top trunnion from the damper arm (leave the pin in the arm) - undo the 4 fixing bolts. The damper will then lift away. It is often very difficult to get the pin out of the arm . Why do you want the damper off ? Are you fitting a replacement damper ?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm taking off the telescopic suspension and putting it back to standard set-up. Is it necessary to touch the torsion bar? Not mentioned in the Haynes manual as part of damper removal.
