Are front bump stops important???
After almost four months of owning my saloon and getting on now for two thousand totally trouble free miles (except for all the usual minor niggles) I have just realised that I'm supposed to have suspension bump stops...
I do have one... at the front... on one side... I take it this is an issue? It has never 'felt' like an issue???

Darn it! What do I do? There doesn't seem to be a 'ledge' for a bump stop or anything... Do I need, then, a bracket welded on for a bump stop where missing???

Is this:

The bump stop yes? So it needs to be bolted to the underside ... I'll have a look at my traveller tomorrow to see how they are SUPPOSED to fit...
I MUST learn to weld... NOW!

Just fix with two bolts/nuts to the inner wing - directly above the king pin top trunnion. Note they are 'handed' . Should also be rebound stops under the top arms - bolted through the inner side wing at the base of the slot where the top arm protrudes.

The rebound stops... are they no 11 on the diagram?
Hmmnn... right side front does have a plate sticking slightly out with the bump stop on, on the other side there appears to be a plate half welded onto the top of the bump stop plate giving almost no access to the top of the bolts BUT the holes ARE there, I think the rubber stop has simply come off its base plate! Phew! I'll grab one from Moss tomorrow... and check the rebound stops when doing the free play on the throtle... before finishing rewebbing the traveller seats and giving the new wood another coat of oil... oh and fitting the new rear lock.. and...
It doesn't end does it!?!

Don't tell Roy, but I've had no bump stops for about 18 years and probably 150,000 miles! I have got telescopic dampers though which is probably why the inner wings are still the right shape.Arthurdaily wrote:After almost four months of owning my saloon and getting on now for two thousand totally trouble free miles (except for all the usual minor niggles) I have just realised that I'm supposed to have suspension bump stops...

Ha ha
Well for poor old Saloon, he hasn't got telescopic anythings... so I'll fit a bump stop or two me thinks!

Are there any smooth roads left? If there are then they have road humps to prevent Morris Minors from exceeding 15mph

Re: Are front bump stops important???
Some tele dampers (eg Koni) have internal bump stops. The Q then is whether the mountings can take the 'bump' ........
