Causes and potential cures for jumping out of gear

Post by jaguar68 »

Hi Guys,

Recently, my '69 4 door saloon has started to jump out of 4th gear. It had previously done this when accelerating uphill, but now it's happening on an annoyingly regular basis whilst on the flat.

What would be the most likely cause of this problem? Is there an easy cure, or is it time to upgrade to the Ford 5 speed 'box languishing around in the garage?

Regards

John

There is no easy fix - so if you are fit for that 5 speed conversion - now's the time. Alternatively - pick up another standard box and stick it in.

As above, although a secondhand box is a gamble, considering the work involved in fitting. Rebuilding is the safest way to get results but you need a clean working space and patience, it's not a 5minute job!
