body wieght

Post by oldmod1968 »

hi,

Is it possible to lift a 3 door body shell with engine gear box diff and wings removed. how many prople would it take?

I need to weld the bottom and had in mind removing the parts and laying the body on its roof or side in the garage.

Has anyone done this ? Thanks Chris

Just done that, engine, gearbox, prop, seats, battery removed. 3 blokes to lift, when it gets to the point where it is balanced on 2 wheels, one of you needs to whip round the roof side and lower it onto the supports, in my case it was a milk crate and 3 old sofa cushions. You need the wheels/tyres up on a slab of wood or spare wheels other wise you find the sills touch the ground when it is on it's side. Putting it back took just 2 of us.

Hi, thanks for that but was thinking of axle and wheels off. Idea was to have the body on the roof to work on. Has anyone done this ? thanks chris

How would you work on it?
Sounds very awkward to me.

You certainly must NOT put it on it's roof - it will collapse! And as above - how would you work on it anyway ?

Sometimes you need to get to both sides of the floor when welding. If you had it on it's roof then at some point you could be welding overhead. Best to do it on it's side.
