Torsion Bar Maths

Post by dunketh »

Someone please remind me what one 'knotch' on the torsion bar equates to in inches of ride height.

My bars have been adjusted so they do nothing whatsoever, I need to jack them back up and fear I wont find enough adjustment in the x-member alignment plate thingys. :o

Apparently 1.5" although i found with mine it slightly alters the ride height on the other side to, but 1.5" is the quoted one.

I never have fiddled with the X member adjustments, not worth the hassle - it's SO easy to move the front - just one spline at a time at the front ~ 1.5" as above.

The x-member adjuster allows fine trimming if you want it spot on.

the adjuster holes in at the x member equate to about 5mm per hole. usefull for when you've just fitted bigger tyres and need to raise the ride height to stop the constantly rubbing the arches, but dont want to raise the suspension by 1.5 inches and make it look like its on stilts!

I believe the BMC Manual quotes 1 1/4" for each spline and 1/4" for the finer adjustment on the crossmember.
