as it was my day off i went to the silverstone classic ,its a fantastic event, they race about everything there is a large autojumble ,traders airdisplays you can go round the paddock.there is also a lot of car clubs there,i am wondering why we are not there we are the biggest car club in the country,to my mind it would do the clubs image a lot of good if there was a club presance ,just seems a crying shame to me.im going on sunday as well .
Oooh I am sooo envious!! I love historic car racing but haven't been for years due to family and costs. Good question about why we can't be a presence there!
Well as you say, shame you have to go again! Never mind try and enjoy yourself!!
well sunday was fantastic there were cars everywhere i looked a nice air display ray hannas mh434 kk9 spitfire flowen by steve jones and north american p51d mustang ,there is also a retro run where groups of cars drive to the event and then drive round the circuit and park on the in field .the racing was 2nd to none .i think 2 etypes were written off while they were racing one span the other had nowhere to go both drivers walked out . ireally think the club should attend this event its fantastic ,maybe me being a young 43 my tastes are different .
Jayne and I went on the Retro Run on the Saturday in the Traveller. There were 3 routes from Silverstone - one visited the Aston Martin customer service centre at Newport Pagnall, one visited the Motor Museum at Gaydon and the other visited ProDrive at Banbury. The routes were 100 miles long although one route could be shortened to 60 miles. A 4th group drove to Silverstone from the Brooklands Museum in Surrey.
Those on the Retro Run had a dedicated parking area at Silverstone and on the Sunday those who wanted got to drive a parade lap of the new F1 circuit. The entry was £112 and gave access to all 3 days of the Classic event as well as the Retro Run and the lap of the circuit.
There was so much to see and do we hardly got to see any racing. The majority of the cars were 'sporty' in nature - there were supposed to be 1,200 E-Types there celebrating their 50th anniversary - and the Traveller received a lot of attention as it was a bit of a novelty. All in all it was great fun and highly recommended.
