Fuel Pump

Post by Arthurdaily »

After advice on another post, I have decided to check out my fuel pump, maybe even swap it for a new one... but it doesn't look like the one in my saloon (this one is in my traveller) - is it electronic? Plus, whilst we are on the subject of fuel, clearly this fuel pipe has had it, the one from the metal tank pipe to the pump, what internal diameter of pipe do I need to replace it? (I know I could measure, but don't want to take the old off till I have new):[frame]Image[/frame]

Just order a new fuel pipe for whatever Minor you have.

Haha - I would do if the price was right - but a new piece of pipe with clips is 7.99 on various Morris sites, where as buying length of fuel pipe and two clips costs about 1.99 in a motor factors! Any thoughts on the pump though, is it just standard??

Looks a bit like a Mini pump - mounted on stilts. If so - it's a 'pusher' pump and not at all suitable for use on a Minor - unless you mount it low down at the fuel tank outlet at the back of the car.......

Right, so I should get a new pump eh? I would imagine it would simply be a case of getting a new 'points' pump from bull, or whoever, and a simple swap yes?

You always take a risk when buying from Ebay that the part won't work. In this case i would buy new and then if it doesn't work you can return it and get a replacement. Also get a decent fuel hose. A cheap hose can break. You don't want fuel spilling onto a hot exhaust :o

If that pump works - just stick with it for now and keep your eyes open for another one at the right price.

IIRC the ID of the flexible hose between the steel tube and the fuel pump is 5/16" (8mm)

Thank you, have new pipe now based on those sizes given - thank you!, plus a member has given me a working SU pump too - so just need to work out how to fit it and I'm away, but I can use my saloon as a 'model'! :D
