1275 distributor spindle timing
hey just started timing the my marina 1275 engine. however i need some advice on the direction to put the spindle in to start timing the engine. thanks

Doesn't matter - but don't drop it or you will need to take the sump off! Once it's running - initially adjust for best/smoothest idle, then advance it till it pinks when you accelerate hard in top gear, and then retard it very slightly. Job done !

The drive pins are offset so unless they are badly worn they should only go in one way. Rotate the spindle until they drop in

thanks for the advice
Re: 1275 distributor spindle timing
I was assuming the 'spindle' was the drive shaft with gear that takes the drive up from the camshaft to the dizzy - is this not what is being discussed?
