I'm about to paint my MM Series, low light and I would like to know what options of colors do I have. The color now is kinda purple. I would like to have a light color. Not a dark one. I've seen the following photos and I really liked the color but I do not know what color is it, I don't know the name of the color.
Your car was probably Maroon A, used from 1948-50 but discontinued due to problems with the paint fading. The problems seem to hve been soved and it was re-introduced as Maroon B from 1967-69 and is a popular colour for lowlights.
Platinum grey was used from 1948-50, ICI code 0123. Gascoyn Grey, ICI code 0095 was used from1950-52. Most of the records seem to have been destroyed and colours are generally achieved by paint matching. Also painting is usually by two pack which is not an exact match to cellulose.
Most colours seem to have ony been used for two years before changing
my 1949 MM had the same problem as yours: when found, 30+ yrs ago, it was a sort of dull pink. It was repainted in black because at the time information was scarce and nobody in Italy knew that this was the effect of discolouration of the original Maroon A. If I may (respectfully) give you an advice, pls avoid the mistake that was done on my car and repaint it in the original maroon: it's a very nice, brilliant colour, it looks good in the Mediterrean sunshine and the car will maintain its originality.
Maroon is a dark red. If you have a copy of "Original Morris Minor" there are examples in there. There is also a photo on the Series MM website http://seriesmm.mmoc.org.uk/rally National rally 2008

The original Maroon A was BMC paint code RD8 ICI paint code 2473 (this is the paint that was discontinued as it faded)
Maroon B is BMC paint code RD23 ICI paint code 6573 Hope this helps. If you want to see what this colour looks like take a look at poster "LouiseM" 's post picture. She has a Maroon B 2 dr.
Here's a better pic, including a maroon low light, so you can get an idea of how it looks Not sure if the low light is Maroon A rather than Maroon B but if it is there's not a lot of difference between the shades. [frame][/frame]
