Re: Pickup restoration part three
with a bit of adjustment they went on ok, I hope there's enough adjustment to allow correct beam positioning for the mot.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
the bezel in the foreground is causing a gap between the light and the wing, bit more adjustment needed there.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
this used safety catch arrived this morning from ebay, needs a whizz over with a wire brush in the drill and it'll be ready to go on, its cast metal. so no need to paint it.[frame]

Have a good look at a Moss Europe catalogue page 56 Electrical or their website http://www.moss-europe.co.uk
I think you are trying to use Type A headlight adjuster screws & springs( 3 )..... on a Type B headlight ( with bucket ) 2 adjuster screws.
Didn't see any piccies of the headlight seals, which are also different. The Type B ones have two
pockets on the body side of the seal ,to offer weather protection for the adjuster screws ( i.e no rubber plugs required ).
See if ESM will swop the adjuster screw kit for a Type B.( the usual old boring advice, grease the adjuster screws well with copper ease when fitting ).
The wrong type of seal ,might well explain the problem with width/ quality of fit that you have identified.
My pal's Moggie had two different headlights on the car and he also had two, slightly iffy spares. We still couldn't make
a correct decent pair out of what we had.Think we had the full combo of plastic and metal bowls, ones with buckets ( rusted through )ones without, etc.Easy to get confused !!
Never assume what was on the car is correct, study the catalogues/ reference books/ workshop manuals , etc look at what you've been sent and try and have a dummy run off the car ( if you can ) before trying to fit it for real.

The Type B adjuster screws ( 2 ) engages a circular ring/ collar ,at the top end of the screw, with the hooks on the bucket part of the assembly. The ring/ collar part of the screw simply revolves, moving the bucket and therefore the headlight, in or out, when the main thread is screwed in/out
The over large screw Type A ,would simply skip over the threads and never correctly engage the hook with the thread ( which is by it's nature at an angle ).
The safety catch cleaned up nicely.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
The buckets and screws are all at odds then, I need to replace them both with two screw type. Something to think about there.
I'll get those on my order list for next month.[frame]

Went through my box of spare unrestored items and came across three switches for the dash, best fitted to keep them from being damaged in the tumble box of junk.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
with the forward rubber bump stops removed, (the near pyramid shaped ones) the bonnet still has a slight but noticable gap at the front. The catch fits perfectly and sits right in the middle of the hole. There is one thing I have not fitted so far....[frame]

Ive not fitted these circular bump stops, I wonder if they will help adjust the bonnet, trouble is I can't remember where they go.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
David - these are the rear bonnet "stops". Lift your bonnet and stand at the side of your car (roughly under where the "Minor 1000" badges go on the bonnet) on the side of the bulkhead slope there should be a hole. This rubber is screwed into this hole to support the rear of the bonnet . Sorry haven't got a picture.

Aha, yes that makes sense, thanks Lou, the bonnet feels supported at the sides better.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
I see that you've sprayed the bonnet hinges David. I didn't think that body paint adhered very well to chrome - isn't it likely to flake off with use?

Re: Pickup restoration part three
the chrome was so discoloured and ratty looking Ive acid etched and painted them over in body colour till I can replace with nice shiney chrome ones. I have the exahust, seat belts, front indicators, ignition lock/switch to aquire & fit and then I'm good to go. Oh there are a few other bits n pieces, a new wheel box for the wipers, number plates, master cylinder cover plate, sound deadening roll. Um I'd better stop there that list is getting longer. She looks more advanced than she actually is. Once you get the outside looking nice, it looks like its ready. But there's still a way to the end yet, oh a Battery...[frame]

It might be worth posting in the 'wanted' forum for the things that you still need as someone may have what you're looking for.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
You can adjust the bonnet catch- there are a couple of nuts at the top. Shorten the catch by a fraction of an inch by adjusting and the bonnet should sit a little lower when closed and latched!davidmiles wrote:the chrome was so discoloured and ratty looking Ive acid etched and painted them over in body colour till I can replace with nice shiney chrome ones. Re: Pickup restoration part three
Thanks John, the catch needs renewing in that case, it was jammed hard and there's no way that top nut is going to turn, there's also a slot at the top you can access through the badge hole, not budging,( even with bulging temple veins) when I fit a new one that'll tighten down the bonnet nicely, and remove the gap.[frame]
