Sloppy second gear.

Post by goldfish »

Hi everyone,

Recently I've noticed that when my car is in second gear it seems to have far greater freedom than any other with movement of about an inch either way ( reminds me of the Maxi but that did it in every gear ) .Does anyone know if there is an easy fix to this or is it a gearbox out and repair job ?
Thanks

Neil

the o-ring on the gearstick might be perished- but im not sure really. if it the o-ring then its just gearbox gaitor off, three bolts and the gearstick is out. then just replace the o-ring. ( its at the bottom of the 'ball' -there is an indent where it should go) but it could be something more serious

Is the movement fore and aft - or side to side? Does the box run ok - or any sign of it jumping out of gear?

The problem is in second gear only and the gear stick moves from left to right resting on the drivers seat. There is no jumping out of gear and the box works as it should, just irritating more than anything else.
Thanks Neil

Can only suggest stripping out the lever to ckeck if the nylon bush is present and correct - if all ok then check the remote control for any problems - and if still all ok - take the side cover off the box and check the selector rod securing screws - although I v much doubt it's that since that would tend to give back/forward play, not side to side.
