My Engine won't stop !
When I turn the engine off it turns over a couple of times gives a couple of death rattles and dies. Is this something I should worry about or is it part of the charm of owning a 45 year old woody ?

Re: My Engine won't stop !
tickover could be set too fast.
or it's running too rich.
or it's running too hot (most likely in this weather if it's only just started happening).

Re: My Engine won't stop !
It's 'running on' caused by something glowing red inside one or more combustion chambers and thus able to sustain Ignition after you have switched off the sparks. As above -could be retarded ignition/rich mixture/general hot engine. You can try putting your foot down on the acc pedal/changing brand of petrol/advancing the timing till it 'pinks' and then retard v slightly/weaken the mixture (check plug colour - are they brown/black?)/fit a new set of plugs (Champion N9Y are good for a standard engine, or try N7Y)/fit a lower value thermostat....... or just live with it......

Re: My Engine won't stop !
Just for healthy debate, I've seen the problem with timing too advanced and mixture too weak. Best thing is a general service and set everything to correct parameters. Check the coolant!

Mixture too weak will do it, burns too hot.

But needs rich mix to leave carbon in the chamber to glow red.... I did suggest a plug colour check....

Thanks guys for the advice. Much to ponder and lots of tinkering when I get home at the weekend.[frame]
