Opinions sought....
So, I had my car Waxoiled two years ago, and I took off the kickplates today on the drivers side....and um, well, can anyone who doesn't mind have a look here:
http://pyoor.org/photos/cars/inside_sill/
and say whether that's what they'd expect to see? Only I kinda expected some kind of coating of something....
And, um, if anyone fancies giving their opinions on the quality of the welding.... Only I'm thinking I might have more and more to discuss with the company who did my restoration (I wouldn't expect to see chunks of wire, as in image 11, just sort of, well, left there?
Cheers in advance.....

The chunks of wire are untidy remainders of a bit of high-speed MIGing, I should think...
When they waxoyled, did they do 'cavity injection' as well? Otherwise, they'll just have sprayed everything they could get to...

Sorry Kate, to my un-trained eye that doesn't look like there's any waxoyle, um, atall. Good job you're looking now and not 5 years time..... What I found in the box under the rear seat on Dolly was a thick (2-3mm?) layer of ear-wax type stuff, only darker. Mmmm! Anyway, whether thats right or not it seems to be doing the trick. Shame it wasn't extended to her sills either....

Oi, are you reading my webjournal?!
Yes, I should and I made it... just.... Next time I'll take a map.
I've just checked, and the exact wording on the bill is "Injection of closed box sections"....
Will write to them anyway, since they managed to paint over the drain holes in that sill *as well*, which is probably why it looks so sick inside.....
Any suggestions, if they aren't on the helpful side, for what I should do to try and protect the really-annoyingly-difficult to reach parts? Apart from "get a dremel, a wire brush, clean it all up, paint and waxoyle it" or somesuch....

...unfortunately, can't get my other kick plates (passenger side) off without cutting bolts. Don't have spare bolts, nor time to go and get them today, so will have to wait.

...well, I've written a letter to the company involved, and we'll see what they say. I really hope that they do something about this, although I'm not entirely sure what I *want* them to do.
Mostly I'm just really disappointed in them - and starting to worry about the rest of the restoration.

Certainly doesn't look as though there is any waxoyl in there!
BTW
Has anyone else heard that you should re-waxoxl every 2-3 years???
What happens to it??
I guess it 'goes off' as it doesn't catch fire as easily after a year or two ie. when welding etc.

Well, a condition of my 'guarantee' is that I get the car waxoyled every 2 years. One of the reasons I decided to look under the kick plates is to see how well protected it was. That and the company had managed to block 3 of the 4 drain holes, so I was rather worried.... with good reason apparently.

the could have painted the new panels in red oxide or hammerite after welding then waxoiled.
is it welded along top edge ( is that the carpet) where top of kick plate sits on box section
the wire will rust and as its connected to the weld it can only encorage rust, at least if they had painted the wire it would not be a source of rust.
would not have taken much time to remove it.

anyway kate yr sills look pretty good to me, if you havent looked for 2 years i reckon they would be more rusty than that if they had NOT been waxoyled to begin with ... it probly just evaporates ??
a big lump of wood fell off my traveller over the weekend and ive taken my kick plates off to examine things ... can anyone tell me if the boxing plates should extend further back from the b post behind that lump of wood or do they just go across the door way ? ...
cheers
