Spacers for the wires in brake lights?

Post by laneychief »

You know the small bit that holds the wires apart for the brake light tail light combo, any idea where I can source these as mine have rotted away a fair bit, found out after I went to investigate a non working rear left indicator.....

Thanks

Do you mean the spacer inside the lamp holder, or the one that is sometimes found outside the lamp holder? If the former, then just fit a new lamp holder. If the later, then the absence of the spacer should not stop the lights from working unless you have serious damage to the wires - the insulatkion on the wires should be fine without a spacer.

Do you mean the wiring bullet connector similar to this?[frame]Image[/frame]

You can get these from Halfords, ebay, motor factors etc and some of the Minor parts suppliers will probably sell them too.

Not sure what the original poster meant, but some cars DO have a small disc that holds the wires apart after they exit the holder and before they go through the rubber cover. He could also have been meaning the little bit inside the holder that holds the contacts in place to alogn with the bulb. Agree that a picture would be helpful.

my guess would be the round disk that sits under the bulb holding the bulb terminals in place.
If it's falling apart, then other than taking one out of a similar bulb holder (or replacing entire unit) you will have to make something instead. For donor material try using a corner of a scrap PCB* - but it will need to be an area that doesn't have any tracks in it!!

* - e.g. out of a dead 1070's or 80s washing machine - not out of a computer as puter PCBs don't tend to have spare unused area.

Yes - I too was assuming the 'spacer' inside that supports the contacts.....

It may not last long with the sustained heat from the bulb - so best to lay in a good spare I think.
