It seems to be uniformly inaccurate throughout the scale, as pointed out earlier. I'm only getting £25-£30 in when the gauge reads empty, so I've got about £15-£20 left when it reads empty.
So bending the arm shouldn't make it inaccurate at the bottom.
Another option is to empty the tank, put in a sensible amount of 'reserve' petrol, then adjust the arm until its just on the 'E', then leave it at that.

Rather than take it apart just note how many miles it will do after it is registering empty (Take a gallon in a can).
This will take account of any petrol that gets left in the tank that the pick up cannot reach.

I agree that I'm just being a pedant, but when I've run out of other things to do (if this ever happens...), its an annoying trait which I'd like to rectify.

Aren't the tanks 5 gallon?
Mine only costs 30 pounds to fill up
When i first started using the car i noticed that the gauge would never read full, i too thought it was the sender but replaced the gauge and now reads fine

Split screens are 5 gallons but 1000 have a 6 1/2 gallon tank.
