seat upholstery

Hi all,

I have a pair of front seats from a Morris Marina Suntor (destined for my Morris Minor Camper van) which are in dire need of re-upholstery, one of the seat bases is incomplete ( it being narrower than it should be) and the material and foam on the rest of them is in dire need of replacement. I am after any advice on how much I should expect to pay to get them refurbished and re upholstered in 2 tone Vinyl fabric ?

I am located near Southampton if anyone has any recommendations.

Contact the Dorset branch http://www.dorsetmmoc.co.uk Their Secretary Laurie Blewer should be able to put you in touch with the gent who does upholstery work. He was at the last Dorset Rally. He had a car he had done a full refit on and it looked very good.

why not have a go your self?

the seats look straight forward..

if you have any questions i am happy to give some advice as i have done two sets my self and before i did my first set, other than a few straight lines of sewing i had never used a sewing machine before..

Well I went for it and they've turned out OK, Its frustrating because I know I could do better next time. I will be fitting them into the van soon so will get some pictures then.

Narrower is good!
Means you'll be able to access the handbrake etc. It'll make reverse a bit easier to get at too.
Its possible that your ex Marina ones are narrower than my A60 ones, but I've got mine installed now and it looks good. Its a bit tight on the width - they look like a bench seat and its easier if I decide before setting off wether I want the window open or not, but the bases are that squashy its possible to live with it and sqeeze the handle past, and ferret down between the seats for the hand brake...
Not tried them in bed mode yet - still working on the rear seat mounting, but there may be a steam rally oportunity to try it out as a camper soon

Well someone had obviously hacked about with the base so I had to make a new one, the only one was split badly and had beed messed about with, all the foam has been replaced too for a comfier nights sleep.

I was unable to obtain a rear seat so I will have to make do with a piece of foam permanently flat in the back, not ideal but I'm sure it'll be fine.

provided seat covers are available, you can get all the foam and other materials, and with a staple gun and a few simple tools and the right clips one can re-upholster the seats oneself. It is not rocket science!

Look forward to seeing your pics. The rear seat is a very simple two piece affair - just two pieces of ply, covered in foam and trimmed, the upright has a locates against two pull out catches mounted on the furniture and help from falling forwards by two vynil tabs and press studs. No more complicated than the seats you've just done.

Plastic cover over the drivers seat so I don't ruin it by driving it in work clothes... I may see about a Series 2 handbrake to make it easier to operate, but I'll probably just get used to it.
