Indicator stalk.

Had a bit of trouble with my indicators yesterday, which after some probing turned out to be the flasher unit .

On my quest for the answer, I 'unscrewed' the green lens cap on the end of the indicator stalk. Except that I didn't unscrew it, because some pillock had sheared the thread before and super glued it back in .

So Now I have a broken green lens, and a decidedly sad looking indicator stalk. At £50+VAT for a whole new stalk, I'm reluctant as there's nothing wrong with it! And I don't want to bodge it back on with glue because sods law dictates the bulb will blow (and bodges make me sad) Does anyone know if I can just get the black end bit that the bulb screws into?

I thought that you were talking about me. My lens is glued in because the thread in the stem is chewed up. New lenses are available for a few pence, buy some and glue them back in

They break all too easily - if worried - fit a NEW bulb and then glue the lens in. It will be good for ~ 40 years.....

I'll second that, if you want to be able to change the bulb then paint it with the girlfriends nail varnish and leave the lens off.
My friends Morris hasn't had a lens cover for years and has never failed an MOT. I don't think there is anything to say what colour the warning light needs to be.

Haha, ok its a common fix then! Will just glue the old one back on, the bulb without cover just doesn't look right! Sorry for callin you a pillock mike

The black plastic bit with the green clear end is available here in NZ. Instead of a bulb it has an LED so should last a long time. I have just done one on mine.[frame][/frame]
On the old one the black bit had started turning to dust with the sunlight.

Yeah I would certainly be interested in knowing where to get one of those, and how to get the existing one off! Probably a case of break the old one off, and glue the new one on.

I can't see them on the web site but this is definitely where mine came from. They have only recently been manufactured so may be a bit new to get on the website yet. An email would be a good idea, to the address shown on the site. (I suppose I should point out that this isn't me and I'm not advertising. I'm just a customer.)

A bit of additional info - The unit is sold as one complete piece. The green end is glued on and not screwed, but with an LED it should not need to be removed. The plastic it is made of is meant to be UV stable. I have found the light to be well visible even in bright days.
To fit, remove the old one (I made a cut down the length of the old black bit and 'sprung' it off) and the wire(s) in the stalk. The old wire(s) will need to be unsoldered. Then it is just a case of inserting the new wires into the stalk and pushing the new end onto the end of the stalk. It grips firmly with no glue. The new wires need to be connected to where the old ones were removed from, being careful of the polarity.

I've still got the old bits so I can get some photos of the process if needed. Now, if I can just find that box that I left in a safe place in the garage.

You can say that again! Poor Gilbert had a bit of a rough time with earthquakes.

Cant be sure about this , but I vaguely remember a ceramics expert saying you can dissolve old superglue with nail polish remover ( acetone I think she said). It may not work but will smell good. It might affect the plastics- if only the lens, then well and good, but if the black holder ....

We use 99.9% lab grade acetone at work. Will try in on Monday and report back.
