Front brake cylinders / Quality control ?

Post by mogbob »

Overhaulling the front brakes on my pal's Morris ( undergoing a complete restoration ), I sat down with my mug of coffee, to go through the boxes of his new wheel cylinders , flexy pipes, etc.

4 boxes, oulet / inlets suitably plugged to keep dirt out, plastic bagged. So far, so good.Bleed valve fixed in cylinder body but two plugged holes as well !! Doh ?
The manufacturers had put a small size bleed valve in the side fixing bolt hole.... new design feature I guess.
Same with the corresponding cylinder for the other side.Obviously no where for the brake fluid to go but it would confuse a novice no end.
Fortunately I had a couple of new, correct size bleed valves to fit, so it didn't hold us up.

My pal is in contact with the major supplier concerned ( with a first rate track record on parts supplied previously ) over this one.
The moral of the story is to always retain the old parts for comparison purposes and assemble and check the new parts before
starting the job.

Flog the spare bleeders to a Mini owner - used on the rear cylinders. Can't see a complaint about them giving away a freebe!

Thanks for that Roy.Shall I tell my pal that the proceeds from selling the two Mini bleed valves will change his lifestyle ?
