No Headlights, Main beam dash light always on.
Hi there, the most recent problem with the moggy is that i went to turn on the headlights but they dont work, however no matter what i do with the dip switch, the main beam idiot light is always on when the switch is on headlights. I figured its got to be one of 4 things: bad earth (which ive checked to no improvement), the dash switch is knackered, or the dip switch, or the Bulbs have both gone at the same time, not sure which without playing around but maybe someone has had the problem before? I have got sidelights just to clarify. Can anyone help? Thanks, Jamie

We need to know some background.... So - yesterday the lights worked perfectly, dip and main beam , and the blue warning light only came on with main beam ? Yes?? No work has been done to the wiring etc - and now - there are suddenly NO headlights (dip or main) and the blue light is on ALL the time headlights are switched on?? If that is so - I suspect a fault in the dip switch (although normally v reliable) - or the wiring at the dip switch.

You're correct about everything minus that the car hasn't been driven for 3 weeks, i drove it about all day yesterday then went to turn on the lights and that's what happens. No high or low beam. Thanks a lot i'll check out the dip switch when i get a chance next weekend and let you know!

Use a test light to check the blue feed wire at the dip switch. If ok then connect the blue wire directly to the blue/white then the blue/red wires, this will check the main beam and dip beam. Not sure about the warning light as that should only work with main beam. Sort out the main problem and that may sort itself out.
Do the side/tail lights stay on on s/l and h/l positions on the switch

I cannot think of any one thing that could cause both these faults.
I think you may have 2 faults that coincidentally happened at the same time.
I would follow Mike's excellent advise as a starting point.

Had a very similar problem with my landy, it turned out to be the earth connection for the headlights.
