Tappet chest gasket problem.

Post by sidecar »

Having to fit a new rubber gasket on the front tappet chest, the one with the breather. Are these fitted dry, or with sealant on one or both sides.
Also I realise the bolt should not be done up too tight, but how tight.

Thanks.

They were dry fit when new - why would you add ghastly gasket goo now? The rubber seals only work with the later 1098 type covers......and the bolt has a rubber seal under a little cup - under the bolt head. And yes - just 'nipped up' is sufficient !

these rubber ones are a total pain, get the cork ones! i had a set, if you tighten them too tight, they push out and oil pours everywhere, leave them so they stay in place and theyre not tight enough so oil oozes out. get the cork type and just nip them up, as said, no leaks!

Can't agree - on the correct covers - the rubber seals are great.
