Re: Self Judging
It's been interesting reading some of the comments on this subject.
I went to the South Wales rally.......my car was the Trafalgar Blue Traveller. I thought the event as a whole was well organised, well attended and in a very nice location.
I wasn't worried about whether my car won an award or not as my reason for attending is that I love Morris Minors, full stop.
My car was restored by the previous owner for his wife who then decided it was too good to use as an everyday car. My father subsequently bought it from him. Since owning it my father and I have improved many areas of the car and continue to do so. Unfortunately, I lost my father in 2009 and I inherited the car from him as was his wish.
Although the car is always garaged, it is by no means a "garage queen" and used frequently throughout the year. I keep the car in the same condition that my father used to and as a testament to him. The car has more sentimental value to me than any award it wins and I want to pass it down to my children one day, hence why it will be kept in the best condition possible.
There are some people who obviously resent cars which are so-called garage queens. It usually takes the form of negative comments regarding non-original parts of the car. At the South Wales event I heard one chap criticising my car because it has a brake servo, copper brake pipes, front anti-roll bar and halogen headlights. I ignore such comments as I've heard them all before, but these modifications and others are there for safety reasons as my family and I use the car regularly....my choice. However I would question whether these non-original parts are any different to having a car which has been re-painted in two-pack paint, or has non-original interior fittings??
Judging by the varied comments, I think branches can learn a lot as to how to give awards.....better still, don't give awards and have an event which is more of a social gathering with maybe an award for the person who has travelled furthest.

Re: Self Judging
Thanks for your feedback and comments. After our branch meeting last night it was noted that the rally was well attended, well organised and in a great location. There was great comments from all. I had mentioned about this topic and it should be something to work on for next year.
If St. Fagans are willing It's hoped that we will return for another rally next May (20th I think). Information will be released soon.
PhilR. Your traveller looked great and should be a credit to you, your family and your dad.

But what about the car LouLouiseM wrote:In that case I'll have to try the "flowers on the roof rack" trick more often Dale. A couple of hanging baskets and I'll be in the running for concours!

Cheers
