Right colour for the right year?
Hello. I having been looking at a 1957 MM for sale and was wondering if the colour was "right" for its year. It is a 1957 948cc 2 door saloon. The colour (inside and out) is porcelain green. According to other sources, this colour did not come out until July 1960. Do you think someone has given it a decent respray job?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Right colour for the right year?
Just had one other thought. Perhaps the car is sage green rather than porcelain green (this would then fit the year). Anyone know if the two colours are fairly similar?
Thanks
Thanks

Welcome to the messageboard.
Sage and porcelain green are quite similar - sage is slightly darker. Both nice colours

Re: Right colour for the right year?
The seats in a sage green are usually a dark green with white piping and a porcelain green one usually has sort of beige/biscuit coloured seats. As Louise says sage is darker. Another difference would be the indicator stalk, on the older car it should have a combined indicator and horn the later would have the horn in the centre of the steering wheel. This is a sage pic, I dont seem to have a porcelain pic[frame]

Too many Minors so little time.....

As a comparison, using photos posted here previously, here's sage green:[frame]

And here's porcelain green:[frame]

Sage green was used from May '56 until March '59 and porcelain green was used from July '60 until October '61.

Dear Louise and David
Thank you for clearing this up. This was my first post and I am hugely impressed by the speed of your replies and the wealth of your knowledge. With any luck (having been Minorless for the last 20 years) I will be back behind the wheel in the next week or so.
Thanks once again for your help.

You are right. Am quite tempted, but with a couple of reservations - in the photos, as you can see on the right hand side of the dash there are a couple of extra switches and buttons, which someone has obviously had to drill holes for. How easy would it be to take them out and put that right I wonder?

It depends what they are for. They may work something useful. I should contact the seller and ask first. Don't let 2 switches put you off a nice car.

Re: Right colour for the right year?
Again - you are right. There are a couple of other body work bits that need doing, so I might get those priced up and see what I can do. I read something today which said that there are only 20000 Morris Minors on the road (down from 240000 in the mid 70s)! Don't want to hang around too long or they will all be gone!
