rough idle

Post by paul42mill »

Hi.
Just wondered if anyone has encountered this one.
Have just got my moggie up and running after a long slumber, starting and running o.k. just seems a little lumpy on tick over.
will idle with the revs turned up a little but not on low revs.
Have cleaned the carb out, fitted new plugs, points. condenser and checked that fuel is getting through o.k.
The only other two things left for me to try is to replace plug leads and drain the old fuel.
I did add a coulpe of gallons of fresh stuff to the old but did not drain it.
Fuel may be stale so will drain tank and put fresh in.
Any other ideas??

Check tappet clearance gap and then carry out a compression check if no improvement.

Have you checked the dash pot has oil in it?

Hi.
Good point, how much oil should you put in the dash pot and what type, is it the 3 in 1 type ??

3 in 1 - just burn off the old fuel, don't bother draining it.

Paul, enough to create resistance as you press the plunger back down. Don't overfill as you will spend several minutes slowly pushing the thing back down.
