Kick plates/sills?
hi all..Iv noticed the kickplates..or what I think are kick plates are bolted onto the car (1960 model morris 1000)..yes Im referring to the bit above the sills where the door opens.(on body not door)..just wondering are these easy to remove and reinstall?..as I am doing some surface rust removal and want to get into the corner fiddly bits..any replies appreciated

They just sit over the sills, remove any screws and they should lift off. Hopefully you will not get too much of a shock when you see inside

To elaborate on Mike's answer there are self tapping screws " inside " the car where the kick plates hook over the bodywork.
Gently tap the end of the screwdriver to shock them loose/ get started.
Underneath the car,a couple of inches/ 5cm, inboard of the sill finishers you will find four small nuts and bolts.The bottom edge of the kick plate is sandwiched between the sill finishers and the sill.
Being underneath the car, exposed to all the elements....you can guess what I'm going to say next ....getting the nuts and bolts undone may prove a bit of a challenge.Certainly wire brush well and soak with Plus gas and have a go but most people attack it with a cold chisel and hammer, if you are careful, or an angle grinder for speed.New nuts and bolts required.Re-Install with grease / copperease for future protection.

Every experienced restorer of classic cars immediately knows that " remove fixing screws" = lots of time and effort.

Tap head of screw side to side to make it easier to remove replace with new screw and make sure you use correct type and size of screwdriver

thanks everyone & please forgive the delayed response, but I am happy to say that the job was quite easy and underneath ..."NO RUST!!!!"...I think my car has been protected by clay that seems to be 50 years old and an inch thick
