seized clutch

Hi all, the minor i just bought was parked up for a few years and the clutch pedal is solid, is this common? if its not just as easy as fitting a new cable will there be much work in freeing up the clutch? and should i bite the bullet and buy a new one? cheers

Sounds like the clutch plates are stuck together, assuming you've checked the linkages underneath and all is in order. Not sure the best way to free the plates but someone else may know?

do a search on seized clutch been many postings on the best ways to free it off,simple 90% of the time .then if after doing what others have tried repost if the methods have failed.

You say "the clutch pedal is solid" I assume you mean it can't be pushed down?

If this is the case spray some penetrating oil (not WD40) or diesel onto the moving parts of the linkage (it's not a cable).
If you can get the plate in the drivers floor off you will be able to see the shaft of the clutch pedal, give this a good soaking too.

Give it an hour or two then start tapping the pedal with a hammer until you get movement.

Is the engine stuck in gear?
If not then you can try starting the engine and leave it running, the movement might free it.
Worst case senario - gearbox out and strip the clutch down.

MarkyB has it - it's the pedal that's stuck - although every chance the plate is stuck too - but get the pedal moving first before worrying about that.
