Grease nipples

Post by CowleyKids »

Hello Everyone

While greasing the car on the weekend I snapped off the grease nipple on the top joint on the front nearside. No problem nipped into Moss and bought a couple of new ones but they don't fit.

The one I bought are LN30041, but the thread is to narrow.

Please find attached a couplre of pictures of the one I took off of the offside.

I have tried various factors but no joy. I know it is going to be the scrap yard but if anyone knows where the thicker thread ones can be got, then much appreciated. Maybe the people who had the car before us fitted incorrect top joints.

Thank you in advance

How do you snap off a grease nipple?
Take a grease nipple off somewhere else, grease the top trunnion then replace it.

It's happened to me before. The worst bit is getting the old thread out. There is no right or wrong thread size. Unfortunately different suppliers have used different nipples over the years. As Mike says, quick fix is to use a nipple from elsewhere on the car, but cover the hole for the missing nipple to stop mucj getting in. Most of the normal suppliers will be able to sell you all sizes of nipple by post.

Hi, thought I may be able to help you out as have had a spare nipple as shown kicking around my shed for years, found it within a few minutes (this is a first, normally takes about a week unless looking for something else), however after inspection it has a fine thread rather than the course thread you are looking for, sorry.

Hello Mike

I was probably using the wrong sized grease gun (if that's possible) but the nipple part of the grease point ended up in the end of the gun.

As for taking a nipple from another area of the car and using that one. What a stroke of genius!
