Referb wheel help

Post by russ13 »

Hi all, again, a bit more help please. The wheels and tyres on our 1959 minor 1000 are about shot and I have spotted some shotblasted and painted wheels on E-bay, but i'm not sure what size I need, the tyres on mine are 5.20/14 so I will need 14in wheels but what size tyres will I need to get, I've been told to get metric ones as they are cheeper, can anyone let me know what I need, size, make Ect.
Thanks to you all Russ.

Cross ply tyres are difficult to get these days - and pretty hopeless on the road. Most fit Radial ply 145 X 14 tyres, although 155 are also used on standard wheels. You will need ~ 28/30 psi in the 145 tyres, and 32/34 in the 155 tyres.

If cash is tight - don't waste hard-earned on 'refurbished' wheels. Just tidy up the ones you have with a knotted wire brush and a coat of Dulux Magnolia!

i am with roy, clean and paint the wheels your self.. i go with a 50 : 50 mix of white and magnolia.. but it would be a shame to ruin the ride of your car with some cheap tyres having spent a lot of time effort and money doing the car up.. these are my brush painted wheels..[frame]Image[/frame]

I did the same for my convertible. If they show a bit of wear it doesn't take much to bring them back again. You can then save up for the wheels of your choice whilst enjoyng your car. :D
